David de Beyter : Damaged Inc.
David de Beyter / Big Bangers
During three years, David de Beyter followed the “ Big Bangers “, a north european community which practices the car crash as a lifesyle. For the release of the book following this project, Damaged Inc., the french photographer will be present at LE BAL for a screening followed by a meeting.
Gathering cinema, photography and sculpture, the project leans on this amateur practice derived from auto-cross which simply consists in the destruction of automobiles by violent collisions compressing motors and bodies. An aesthetic of the annihilation including wrecks called in the amateur jargon an "auto-sculpture". On tracks, on parkings, on fields, the artist successed to capture the essence of a practice which shapes the landscapes of his childhood. This long-time project, mentionned at the Prix de la Jeune Création du BAL, will offer three publications. The first part, Damaged Inc., published by RVB Books, is directly inspired by the original fanzines aesthetic created by the "Big Bangers". The release will go along with a screening of 22 minutes movie extracted from a collection of five videos as well as a meeting with the artist, who will discuss with the BAL Books manager, Emilie Lauriola.
