Das Kapital illustrated : Jean-Baptiste Ganne and Julien Prévieux
Das Illustrierte Kapital / The Illustrated Kapital
Karl Marx / Jean-Baptiste Ganne Edition Fotohof, Salzbourg, 2003
Last screening of the cycle "Marx en scène" (Marx on stage) organized by the École normale supérieure (ENS) and LE BAL, dedicated to the contribution of Marx thinking in the artistic creation which, for years, revisits and tries to reproduce Das Kapital.
In his art book Le Capital illustré (1998-2003), Jean-Baptiste Ganne employs the photography to mention various excerpts from Marx work, while seeking to give body to the main concepts of the german philosopher. In his drawing trilogy À la recherche du miracle économique (2006-2007), Julien Prévieux (awarded by the Prix Marcel Duchamp, 2014) uses Das Kapital as an oracle to determine the economic future. Applying to Marx writings a decoding process invented by medieval monks, he highlights the keywords to map various financial outrages and economic crises of the 20th and 21th centuries.
With Emmanuelle André, lecturer at the Université Paris 7, Jean-Baptiste Ganne, artist, photography teacher at the École nationale supérieure d’art Villa Arson in Nice, Pascal Mougin lecturer at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, Dork Zabunyan, lecturer in cinematographic studies at the Université Paris 8.
