JEB : Making A Way: Lesbians out front
JEB (Joan E. Biren) will be at BAL Books on Wednesday, September 10, from 7 to 8 p.m., for a meet-and-greet and book signing for her latest book, Making A Way: Lesbians Out Front.
On the occasion of the exhibition “US OTHERS", and following the screening of her film “The Dyke Show” (1979), JEB will honor us with a book signing at BAL Books. She will present her latest book, Making A Way: Lesbians out front, published this year by Anthology Editions.
JEB first presented her photographs to the public in 1979, when she published Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians, a groundbreaking book celebrating love between women. In the years that followed, JEB collaborated with poets, musicians, filmmakers, elected officials, health professionals, factory workers, spiritual leaders, and others who built communities and worked for political change. Her second book, Making a Way: Lesbians Out Front, published in 1987, captures the spirit and energy of this movement through more than a hundred moving photographs that transport us from passionate activism to thoughtful solitude, while the comments and memories of each woman photographed enrich the historical record. This reissue of Making a Way includes new essays by Cheryl Clarke and JD Samson, making it an essential document of an era whose impact continues to be felt in our society today.
