PART I - SFR / LE BAL 2013 AWARD FOR YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHY
SYLVAIN COUZINET-JACQUES, STANDARDS&POORS
This award, open to every student in art schools as well as to former students (who have graduated less than three years before entering), carries a 5000 euros grant with the aim of accompanying the prizewinner in the making or the continuation of a creative work on documentary photography.
For months, Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques, graduate of L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles in 2012, has travelled across Spain. Standards&Poors alludes to deserted locations, which are what is left to four colossal real estate projects that have been aborted. These dozens of billions euros estimates casinos, golf courses or five stars hotels seem outrageous as Spain is today scattered by uncompleted buildings. There are EUROVEGAS in Madrid, BARCELONA WORLD in Tarragona, FERRARI PARK in Valencia, PARAMOUNT PARK in Murcia. These projects embody the new Eldorado of real estate promoters and investors, astounding projections, at the time when the intense real estate speculation scars cover the Spanish landscape.
PART II - A NEW GENERATION OF SPANISH PHOTOGRAPHERS
« Echoing Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques work on Spain crisis scars, four Spanish photographers gathered around the platform called Amparo, deliberately choose the discrepancy. By presenting the fiction, the intimacy, the narration or a fable, each vision cross the others and leads us to an elsewhere. Which reality is depicted here? Pigeons races for Ricardo Cases, a pastoral fable for Antonio M. Xoubanova, the quest for an absolute distance for Aleix Plademunt and a human-machine stinging hymn for Óscar Monzón…
Deeply influenced by their own environment, they twist, dissect and manipulate the real.
The book as well as the exhibition is means to expression and reflection and this is how this generation establishes itself into a photographic abundant landscape. »
