Talk with John Divola and David Campany
John Divola, Vandalism, 1973 - 1974, Courtesy of Gallery Luisotti, Santa Monica, California
The american photographer talks with David Campany, curator of the exhibition A HANDFUL OF DUST: From the Cosmic to the Domestic.
For Vandalism (1973–1975), American photographer John Divola broke into empty houses armed with spray paint, string and cardboard, played the art vandal and then photographed the results. With their host of narrative implications these images fluctuate between scientific investigation, performance, sculpture and art photography.
What is a photograph? A light-trace? A piece of evidence? A bad substitute for reality? An act of provocation?
