Hello Paris Photo ! It's that time of the year again for photography lovers !

For the edition 2016, BAL Books will also host a few special evenings in the bookshop for all the photobook crazies with a night dedicated to Japanese publishing, a talk with Edmund Clark and Crofton Black around their book 'Negative publicity' and a series of book signings of our favorite publications in 2016!

Program :

THURSDAY, 10 NOVEMBER

An evening around Japanese publishing / 7 PM - 10 PM :

For one night, LE BAL Books goes for a discovery walk through Japan. The publishers of IMA , SUPERLABO, SPEW, Reminders Photography Stronghold, Roshin and Artbeat Publishers will present and sell their publications, old and new, at the bookshop. A series of book signings will happen as well during the whole evening with Daisuke Yokota (Matter/Burn out, Artbeat 2016), Keiichi Tahara (SUPERLABO), Taisuke Koyama (Rainbow variations, Artbeat 2016), Takashi Kawashina (Unfinished topography, Artbeat 2016), Hiroshi Okamoto (Recruit, Reminders 2016), Kenji Chiga (HAPPN, Reminders 2016) and the Anonymous experimental collective SPEW, who will perform a live silkscreen printing session!

FRIDAY, 11 NOVEMBER

Book signings / 3 PM - 4 PM

Played - Yoshi Kametani (Éditions du Lic, 2016) : One of the most original books published by Editions du Lic in 2016 takes the shape of a book both sober and experimental. A yellow plastic dust cover and loose bound pages support a short essay and dark images of the seedy corners of a New York City that probably already doesn't exist anymore. Kametani's invisible protagonist, like a contemporary Holden Caulfied, walks in the images like they're already an illusion.

The CastleFederico Clavarino (Dalpine, 2016) : Is Europe an illusion now ? Through a series of images spread over four distinct chapters that resonate both as an exhortation and a prophecy, Clavarino revisits the founding myth of the old continent. In a book as smart as cold, he confronts it with the principles of power and control that articulate Europe'structure.

> Etat d'urgence - Bettina Lockemann (Spector Books, 2016)

BOOK SIGNING & TALK / 7 PM - 8 PM :

Negative Publicity - Artefacts of extraordinary rendition - Edmund Clark et Crofton Black (Aperture, 2016) : With this important publication, winner of the Photo-Texte 2016 award at the Rencontre d'Arles 2016, british photographer Edmund Clark and counterterrorism specialist Crofton Black present, through a series of photos and documents, an investigation around "extraordinary renditions", an illegal extradition tactic that happened during Georges W.Bush's presidency. Reservations and infos

SATURDAY, 12 NOVEMBER

BOOKS SIGNINGS / 6 PM - 7 PM :

> Revoir - JH Engström (Journal / Akio Nagasawa, 2016) : The new, highly awaited, book of JH Engström. Revoir revisits his cult book Trying to dance (2004) through a selection of negatives mostly never published before.

> Conversations 2 - Rémi Coignet (The Eyes Publishing, 2016) : The second issue of The Eyes editor-in-chief Rémi Coignet Conversations, which will this time feature interviews with - among others - photographers Mariken Wessels, Stéphanie Solinas, Akio Nagasawa, Alec Soth, Gerhard Steidl...

SUNDAY, 13 NOVEMBER

BOOKS SIGNINGS / 3 PM - 4 PM :

Anaesthesia - Valentina Abenavoli (Akina Books, 2016) : Do war photographies still have an emotional strengh ? When does the indifference start ? Through a cinematographic editing of hundreds of found photos and videos of war scenes, terrorist attacks or propaganda, Valentina Abenavoli created a strong book which ask the question of the accumulation of horror and its effects on our empathy.

With Dominique Lambert, Stéphanie Solinas seeked and drained every tool of representation. Step by step, researches, analysises, personality tests and photofits, the artist gives faces to all the Dominique Lambert from France, the 27th most beared name and ends the sequence of representations with photos of reals Dominique Lambert in the cover. A project as fascinating as clever.
