"René lives in the Creuse, and Jean lives in Morbihan. They don't know each other, yet they are my two grandfathers. From December 2009 to January 2011, I collected their words and images from their respective worlds. Although they are very distant both geographically and by their personality, I have noticed many similarities between them. Both had a peasant childhood that deeply rooted them in the land. As young people, they chose to work away, one abroad, the other in Paris, and then finally returned to live in their ancestral region. They also have in common an exacerbated artistic sensitivity. For them, the boundaries between creative action and everyday life are shifting. The collection, the gleaning, the accumulation constitute the raw material of their imagination. The fact that they both live in seclusion and autarky, after having made the choice to open up to the world, is certainly not unrelated. These points of convergence lead me to think that for both of them, this permanent "work" is experienced as an evidence, even a necessity. These texts and images attempt to trace in the relationship between René and Jean and creation, poetry and their daily lives."
