Diane Dufour

Diane Dufour is co-director of LE BAL in Paris, a contemporary space dedicated to image-document (photography, video, cinema, new media) created in 2010 with Raymond Depardon. Internationally recognized for the quality of its exhibitions (Anonymes, l’Amérique sans nom - Topographies de la guerre - Antoine d'Agata, Anticorps - Paul Graham - Lewis Baltz, Common Objects, etc.), LE BAL aims to integrate visual arts into a reflection on our societies. Its educational platform, La Fabrique du Regard, trains 2000 young people each year in reading images and deciphering the contemporary world through images. Diane Dufour co-directs Les Carnets du Bal with Christine Vidal in partnership with the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and the Centre National des Arts Plastiques. This collection (Les images manquantes - Que peut une image ? - La persistance des images - etc.) explores the challenges of our image-based civilization through interventions by artists, historians, and anthropologists. Diane Dufour has curated numerous works around the work of contemporary photographers including Mark Cohen, Dark Knees - Lewis Baltz, Common Objects - Dirk Braeckman, Sisyphus - Mark Lewis, Above and Below. She initiated the Curators' Day, a platform for exchanging projects that brings together 30 European museums. She was the European Director of Magnum Photos from 2000 to 2007.
