“The latin american photography book : the best kept secret in the history of photography" -Martin Parr

“The Latin American Photography Book : The best kept secret in the history of photography” Martin Parr

The idea of searching and presenting the best photography books of Latin America was born in the first Latin American forum of photography in São Paulo, in 2007. On this occasion we observed the lack of a critical mapping of the books published in the twentieth century on this continent.

The exhibition presents 40 photography books created between 1921 and 2012. The show will follow a route consisting of original books, antique editions, films, maquettes and citations.

The selection is based around six subjects:

  •  History and Propaganda
  • Urban Photography
  • Photo Essays
  • Artists Books
  • Literature and Photography
  • Contemporary Books

In the Press

« The scénographie of Foto/Gráfica is particularly good, the best I have seen for a photobook exhibition. [...] The success of Foto/Gráfica is that it opens itself out beyond Latin American photography to engage with Latin American artistic culture more broadly. »

Curator : Horacio Fernandez

Advisory Committee : Marcelo Brodsky, Iata Cannabrava, Lesley Martin, Martin Parr, Ramon Reverté

The exhibition in Paris is the first stop on an international tour.

The exhibition is co-produced by LE BAL / Ivory Press (Madrid – Spain) / Aperture Foundation (New York – USA) / Instituto Moreira Morales (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo – Brazil) / Museo del libro y de la lengua ( Buenos Aires – Argentina) with the support of the Embassy of Brazil and the Embassy of Argentina in France.
