To go along with the exhibition Provoke at LE BAL, Daido Moriyama, a major figure from the cult and avant-garde Japanese photography magazine from the 1960s, occupy the Gare de l’Est and draw a symbolic line between Japan and Paris.

With the Scandalous (2016) installation, Daido Moriyama updates his famous Accident series originally published as a portfolio in each issue of the monthly magazine Asahi Camera between January and December 1969. Scandalous contains Moriyama's own selection of "visually scandalous" images including unreleased works. Daido Moriyama tests various kinds of “accidental” imagery: appropriates images, pictures of mayhem, voyeurism.

On the basis of this series, critic and photographer Takuma Nakahira requested Moriyama's contribution to the Provoke magazine in 1969, assigning a new role to photography , this « provocative material for thought », which greatly influenced the history of Photography.

Daido Moriyama is the author of 200 books. Scandalous was published as a book entirely silkscreen printed by Akio Nagasawa Publishing (Tokyo) editions in 2016.
