Le BAL award for young artists with the ADAGP 2019 / YASMINA BENABDERRAHMANE

LE BAL, MINISTÈRE DE LA CULTURE AND ADAGP SUPPORT SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION OF CREATIVE WORK IN THE LONG TERM.

LE BAL AND ADAGP ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNER OF THIS SECOND EDITION: YASMINA BENABDERRAHMANE, FOR HER PROJECT "À BRAS LE CORPS".  YASMINA BENABDERRAHMANE IS ALSO RECEIVING A €20,000 GRANT TO ENABLE HER TO CARRY OUT HER PROJECT SUCCESSFULLY.

 

This award is open to all photographers and/or videographers living in Europe and under 40 years of age. LE BAL will support the laureate in completing an already-initiated creative project over a two year period. Priority will be given to projects falling under the broad spectrum of the documentary image, still and motion, representing diverse world hypotheses, positions, and constructions of human experience. The laureate will receive a grant of 20,000 euros to complete their project. In autumn 2019, the two years will culminate in an exhibition of the laureate’s work across the two spaces at LE BAL and a publication.

The first edition of the LE BAL award for young artists with the ADAGP has been awarded to Clément Cogitore for his project Braguino or the impossible community. Sitting on the judging panel, chaired by Diane Dufour, the director of LE BAL, are : Hugues Aubry, patron ; Kader Attia, artist ; Alain Bublex, artist ; Léa Bismuth, independent curator ; Élizabeth Garouste, artist and architect ; Régine Hatchondo, head director of La Création artistique (Ministère de la Culture) ; Thomas Schlesser, Fondation Hartung-Bergman director and Natacha Wolinski, journalist.

Among the 497 applications received, the jury also wanted to highlight 5 favourites: Josh Bilton, Mélanie Pavy, Enrique Ramirez, Maxence Rifflet and Sebastian Stumpf.

The laureate and special mentions chosen by the judging panel will enjoy two days of masterclasses in 2018. An opportunity to meet professionals and leading figures in the world of the visual arts (editors, graphic designers, institute managers, critics, artists, collectors), to gain a better understanding of work issues and enrich and advance their creative project.
