Conversation between the british photographer Edmund Clark and Crofton Black, counter-terrorism specialist, author of Negative Publicity : Artefacts of extraordinary rendition (Aperture, 2016). The meeting will be followed by a book signing at BAL Books at 7 PM.

How can we report of the"extraordinary renditions", this invisible mecanism that allowed the disparition of presumed perpetrators of terror attacks in the CIA secret jails between 2001 and 2008 ? Where are now these inmates secretly extradited by the US government ?

With Negative Publicity : Artefacts of Extraordinary Rendition (awarded by the "prix du livre Photo-Texte 2016" by Rencontres d'Arles), the photographer Edmund Clark and the investigative journalist Crofton Black question these governmental mecanisms attached to counter-terrorism through a set of images and documents. Internment camps, detention centres and governmental buildings are patiently identified, photographed, classed by two authors to reveal a 'Black sites' cartography. Linking these researches with administrative paperwork registering these operations, they highlight the bureaucratic banality and gather the physical evidences from what the author Eyal Weizman calls the "material infrastructure of secret". A work built as an investigative file which points out a well-known phenomenon but still carried as if it was fair and legal.
